Average watch price rises 31%

Postby koimaster » October 17th 2017, 10:48am

The average price paid for a watch in Great Britain rose by over 31% in September compared to the same month in 2016.

All luxury watch brands have increased prices more than once over the past 12 months in an effort to minimise the price advantage enjoyed by Britain since the Brexit vote crashed the pound in June last year.

However, those price rises alone do not account for a 31% rise in average transaction values. The rise has to also be fed by customers choosing more expensive models in recent months than they bought during the corresponding period a year ago.

Not surprising. I'm still a little stunned at U.S. prices after all the mewling over 2016 being such a "bad year" for watch sales - things I look at are up across the board everywhere I shop and look. And is it just me, or is there simply less gray around somehow?

Possibly. Prices going up are probably just due to the world economies on the rise. Gray markets probably swallowed up a lot of excess inventories, along with jewelers and ADs around the world going out of business. With things improving, the gray market will probably shrink somewhat.

Black Friday sales will be interesting this year.
