Springfield entrepreneur takes next step in second career, opening watchmaking shop downtown

Celeste Wong found the time was right to bring back the wristwatch as a handcrafted piece of art

SPRINGFIELD — Celeste Wong is the latest entrepreneur to put her faith in downtown Springfield, opening what she says is a one-of-a-kind business.

Three months ago, Wong opened Celeste Watch Co. on Main Street, across the street from Plank Town Brewing Co.

Wong assembles, decorates and sells watches from the 600-square-foot shop, which is open four days a week. Wong also repairs quartz watches and replaces batteries. The business has a website where people can shop and order anytime.

Wong is a Springfield resident who began selling her handcrafted watches at Saturday Market two years ago. She said Celeste Watch Co. is the only woman-owned-and-operated artisan watch company in the United States.

The cases look a bit "meh", the quartz movement is a bit, well...not particularly exciting. But I tip my hat to anyone who can make their own cloisonne or inlay dial. The VW van dial is kinda funky- it's very hippie.
Do you think I'm a hypocrite? Well, you should. I wouldn't disagree with you.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
